2006 Orchestra

Embrayage

Written for the composition workshops of the Acanthes Festival, in Metz (France), in 2006.

Performed by the Orchestre National de Lorraine, in the Grande Salle of the Auditorium of Metz, under the direction of Jacques Mercier.

Performed by the Holland Symfonia, at the Muziekgebouw aan’t ij, in Amsterdam, under the direction of Fabrice Bollon.

Performed by the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, in the Gävle Konserthuset, in Gävle (Sweden), under the direction of Mats Rodin.

Instrumentation: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 3 horns, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, 1 bass trombone, timpani, suspended cymbal, violins I, violins II, violas, celli, double basses.

Embrayage has never been finished - currently, it is an opening, a trigger. There is something like fireworks at the beginning, followed by an accumulation of waves of glissandi by the celli. Then it comes to a final liquefaction. One can infer that there is something after, but it has not - yet - been written.
